Check Card

Debit and ATM Card Offers Two Convenient Ways to use your Checking:

1. Make purchases using your CVCU Check Card wherever VISA Debit Cards are accepted.

Check Card is safer than cash, faster than checks.
It eliminates the need for you to carry a lot of cash, since all you need is one handy plastic card. Just present it as payment, and the transaction is completed without delay.

No check to write and no ID required.
Just sign a sales slip and each purchase is automatically deducted from your CVCU checking. You’ll receive a receipt for easy recordkeeping and every transaction will be detailed on your monthly share draft statement.

No monthly bill and no interest to pay.
Because purchases are deducted from the funds in your checking account, you enjoy the speed and convenience of paying with plastic but without the monthly bill.

You do not need to enter your PIN (Personal Identification Number) and there is never a transaction fee for using Check Card in the VISA network. (Note: Choose "credit" when using Check Card at a card swipe machine to ensure you're accessing the VISA network.) However, in order to receive cash back when making a purchase with your Check Card, you would need to enter your PIN. (You would choose "debit" for payment at the register, and the transaction is processed through the PULSE network instead of the VISA network.) See below for more information on the difference between choosing "credit" or "debit."

2. Withdraw cash using your CVCU Check Card at thousands of ATMs nationwide.

Get cash from your CVCU checking and savings accounts.
Use your Check Card anywhere without being assessed a fee by CoVantage Credit Union. (Note: Surcharge fees, which are assessed by the owner of an ATM, may still apply since CVCU has no control over them.) There is no limit for using Check Card to make deposits to your CVCU checking or savings.*

What's the Difference Between "Debit or Credit?"

It's time to pay for groceries at the supermarket, so you tell the cashier you're paying with your CVCU Check Card. She then asks, "Debit or Credit?"

Ever wonder why you are asked this question? The merchant is simply asking how you would like the transaction to be processed. No matter how you respond (or in some cases swiping the card and pressing the button yourself) - "debit" or "credit" - the purchase will be deducted from your CVCU Checking Account.

What's the difference?
DEBIT
If you say (or press) "debit" after your card is swiped, the transaction is processed through the PULSE ATM network and you must use your personal identification number (PIN). The money will come out of your Checking Account immediately. If you want cash back, you must choose "Debit."
CREDIT
If you say (or press) "credit", the transaction is processed through the VISA network. This type of transaction is similar to when you write a check - the money will come out of your Checking Account in about 2-3 days.

**Deposit function available only when using PULSE ATMs in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

CHECK CARD applications are subject to approved credit.
