Pay with your mobile device

Mobile Payments

With our mobile payment options, you can securely store your CoVantage debit or credit card details to make purchases at a store with your mobile device.

While mobile payment options are fairly new, the near-field communication (NFC) technology behind Apple Pay™, Google Pay™ and Samsung Pay™ has been available for some time. Because NFC is being included in more devices and because merchants have been upgrading their payment systems to accept chip cards (likely becoming NFC-ready in the process), the technology is now mainstream.

NFC enables two devices (like your mobile device and the payment terminal) placed close together to communicate data. To get started:

      • Enter your credit or debit card information into your eligible device's mobile wallet app.

    • Simply tap or hold your device at the terminal. You may be asked to scan your finger or enter a PIN to approve the transaction. That's it!

Security measures vary depending on the mobile wallet. Many don't show your full card number to the merchant. Apple Pay and Google Pay, for instance, generate a random, virtual account number rather than transmitting your card number. For in-store purchases, because your payment method stays in your hands, you won't reveal your name or security code, either. If you lose your phone, many devices enable you to lock it remotely or completely remove any personal information.

Apple Pay™

CoVantage Credit Union offers members Apple Pay. Within Wallet on your eligible Apple device, you can add your CoVantage cards as payment options. With Apple’s Touch ID™, you don’t have to swipe a card, or enter payment or contact information to pay.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card number is not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code, instead of using the security code from the back of your card.

In participating stores, Apple Pay will work with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. Within apps, Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.
