Free identity fraud research, remediation and recovery service 

Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in the U.S. Putting your life in order after becoming a victim of identity theft can be time-consuming, stressful and expensive. Because we are continually looking for ways to provide outstanding value, as well as help you when you need it most, all CoVantage members have access to Identity Care - a free identity fraud research, remediation and recovery service. This service is available if you become a victim of identity theft, even if you just suspect your information has been compromised. The service covers financial and non-financial identity theft, including credit card, medical, employment, government benefits, government documents, internet and all other types of identity-related fraud.

If you become a victim or sense there may have been fraudulent activity, call CoVantage Credit Union immediately. We will put you in touch with a professional Recovery Advocate who, depending on the circumstances of your case, will:

  • Assist in placing fraud alerts with the three major credit bureaus, and review your credit reports with you to identify the extent of the fraud.
  • Remediate all fraudulent transactions, false accounts, etc.
  • Support law enforcement as they work to stop criminals using your identity.
  • Make sure wrongful information is expunged from your records.
  • Provide 12 months of follow-up after identity restoration to make sure no further problems arise.
  • Provide 12 months of credit bureau monitoring at no charge.


Provided as a benefit of your credit union membership, Identity Care extends services to three generations of your family as well.

  • Spouse or domestic partner.
  • Dependents under age 25 with the same permanent address — even if they are in college or the military.
  • Any other IRS-qualified dependents.
  • Parents with the same permanent address — living at home or in elder care (nursing home, assisted living, hospice, etc.).

All eligible family members are covered up to 12 months after death — an important feature as identity thieves do target deceased individuals.

Identity Care Tips

  • Have your case number (provided to you by CoVantage) ready to validate with your Recovery Advocate to ensure that you are not talking to a fraudster.
  • The Recovery Advocate will identify themselves when they call and say they are from "Merchants Information Solutions."
  • Your Recovery Advocate will request personal information, such as your Social Security number, in order to run a credit report to check for fradulent items.
  • Log into your personal Identity Care Account at to view details and status of your recovery. Don't forget that your personal Recovery Advocate is available to answer any questions or concerns you might have during your Recovery.
